Student Enrollment Trends
Our enrollment has held up better than Vermont’s. Between 2015-16 and 2025-26, the most recent year the Agency of Education has published, our K–12 count fell about 8%, while statewide K–12 enrollment fell about 13%. A flat headcount is not the same as flat cost: buildings, bus routes, HS tuition increases, and mandated services do not scale up or down with a handful of students, and the grades those students are in change what they cost to serve.
Enrollment by school, 2015-16 to 2026-27

Our trend against the state's, 2015-16 to 2026-27
PreK–12 head counts with 2015-16 set to 100, so two populations of very different size can be read in one frame. By 2025-26 our PreK–12 count stood at −2.95% against its 2015-16 level, and Vermont's at −4.91%. A line above 100 means more students than in 2015-16, below 100 fewer.
