Dear Communities of Hartland, Weathersfield, West Windsor, and Windsor,

The school year is off to a busy start!  Faced with retirements and staff moving out of State, the special education department started the hiring season with 6 vacancies. I am very happy to report that we have filled all of them with dynamic professionals!

The Special Education Department has a new push to ensure that all special educators have training in structured literacy, and in partnership with the Curriculum department, is sponsoring that professional development. Any new staff coming on board will be required to engage in the structured literacy approach, ensuring alignment with Act 139.

We continue to work hard to mitigate cost while honoring the Federal and State Special Education Regulations by  improving our systems of support and intervention.

We continue to refine our intervention system and service delivery model under MTSS; our special educators will be engaging in new learning with Dr. Tim Runge. Dr. Runge is the  co-author of “The RtI Approach to Evaluating Learning Disabilities”.

Student Services has a wide range of responsibilities in the Supervisory Union including special education, early childhood education, 504 support, multi-lingual learners and McKinney-Vento. We continue to focus on deepening our connections with families and students within classrooms.

It is an honor to work with such a dedicated team of professionals who strive daily to improve outcomes for our students.

Respectfully Submitted,

Jennifer Hulse
